The Goods: this is music to my ears

By Brent Meske, April 17, 2016 Leave a Comment

I get a lot of side work done. I’m actually writing this blog post on a bus, taking my son to a Saturday morning science class.

So, here’s a short list of my various hobbies that get me through life on a work-high: book cover design, woot, editing (from something called a Manuscript Appraisal to line edits and proofreading), writing books (of which there are about a dozen), and now making a web comic series with my best friend back home (website forthcoming). And making the website to go along with it, since my best friend is a hunt n’ pecker. I mean he types with two fingers.

Just kidding.

But not really.

I get side work done while you’re asleep. I get side work done while you’re eating lunch. I get side work done while you’re watching Netflix. Heck, I get side work done while I’M watching Netflix.

And 90% of using your time productively means shutting out distractions. There are a couple of nice ways to do that. Today I give you one.

Take a listen.

Shh, hush. Don’t get down on music just because it’s made on a computer. So many of your favorite things are made on computers nowadays, it’s sad. All your memes are computer-generated. All your television runs through computers to get to you, your Netflix is via computer. Get off the high horse. If you’re not on a high horse, great.

Here’s why I’m highlighting Savant today: on one hand, you have a snappy, groovy song that’s something like electroswing, and then you turn around and find something like this.

Now, okay you listened, or at least you read the title of the song, and you went ‘you ****** Muslim!’ If that’s the case, stop reading my blog and go start a career as an alligator wrestler. Or shut yourself in your garage with the car running. Choose one, because you’re a horrible person. The song has nothing to do with Islam, I’m not a Muslim, and neither of those things would matter in the slightest, even if they were true. (they’re not… quit being an idiot). Listen to the music here, it’s what’s important.

Notice what happened between the first and the second song? A METRIC FUCKATON. These songs are absolutely different in almost every way. Both are great. Mecca has TIE fighter blaster sounds in it (awesome) and Basement has a great drop.

Here’s another good one, and has itself a musical video to go along with it, with superheroes.

And this one… if you listen, you’ll note has a bizarre hint of 80’s. That happens when a musical workhorse and genius who creates wayyyy more than I do makes electronic music near or at the speed of light. He dabbles in different styles, which means he has one of everything… and I don’t mean one song for everything. He has an album for everything.

Have you ever made two full-length electronic records in one year? Savant has. And if you listen to more Savant, maybe you will have that kind of productivity too. And if you don’t like something on this page, you need a holy ghost enema.

Yes, one guy made all this. One Norwegian guy with a computer and a whole lot of work ethic.
